Graham Allen is the Labour Member of Parliament for Nottingham North. He won his seat in 1987 and his most recent win (2010) gave him 48.45% of the vote.
His extensive career includes serving as Shadow Minister in several leading departments: Social Security, Constitutional Affairs, Media and Broadcasting, Transport and Environment. He was a Government Whip from 1997-2001 and has served as a Member of the Speaker’s Committee on the Electoral Commission since 2010. His work on Select Committees includes as a Member of the Public Accounts Committee (1988-91), Member of the Selection Committee (2000-01) and Member of the Reform of the House of Commons Committee (2009-10). He currently chairs the Political and Constitutional Reform Committee and is a Member of the Liaison Committee.
Graham’s political interests include economic policy and democratic renewal. He is a passionate advocate of education, and this led to him becoming Chair of the Early Intervention Foundation, launched in 2013. Graham’s international interests include China, Russia and the USA.
