Declan Curry is often referred to as “your man in the City”. A journalist for more than twenty-five years, Declan is one of the country’s best-known faces for business news.
He is widely recognised from his reporting of the happenings of the London Stock Exchange and other economic news, especially as Business Presenter for the Breakfast programme on BBC1 and the BBC News Channel. Breakfast, the UK’s most-watched morning news programme, saw him broadcasting live each morning from the London Stock Exchange which meant that he was one of few people to see 2.30 twice each day – firstly when his alarm clock goes off before dawn, and then 12 hours later at a late lunchtime meeting in the City, or trying not to doze off on the Tube.
He presented BBC’s Working Lunch, alongside Naga Munchetty. He then hosted Your Money on the BBC News Channel on Saturday mornings.
Alongside interviewing the country’s top bosses, Declan presents his own daily markets reports, getting news and views from stock market watchers, money gurus, private investors and employees.
Declan has broadcast on the BBC News Channel since its launch in 1997, with hourly reports and breaking news updates. Before that, he presented BBC Radio 5Live’s morning business programme, Wake up to Money, and produced and reported for a range of programmes, including Radio 4’s Moneybox and Radio 5Live’s Financial World Tonight and Drive.
For almost a decade he broadcast each morning on the US network ABC and on LBC. From September 2010, Declan presented On the Money, a Sunday evening business programme on Radio 5 Live, and later hosted the business debate programme Show Me the Money on the News Channel, also on Sunday evening at 9.30pm. Declan has recently reported for Panorama, and presented Weekend Business on BBC Radio 5 Live and Heaven & Earth on BBC1.
He spent four years as a regular columnist for Investors Chronicle magazine, and has been published in newspapers and magazines in the UK, Ireland and the United States.
Declan was born and raised in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, but moved to London to study Chemistry at Imperial College. There, he reported for IC Radio and ICNN (Imperial College News Network).
