Every so often, you meet somebody who combines success, warmth, enthusiasm, integrity, inspiration and a real passion for what they believe. They really do talk the talk and walk the walk. This exactly describes Dale Murray – entrepreneur and award-winning British business angel investor.
Leaving school in New Zealand aged 16, Dale knew that she could succeed if she set targets and worked really hard, with purpose and vision. Now based in the UK, married and with three children under the age of 10, this lady is an inspiration to entrepreneurs and would-be business professionals across all sectors.
Dale co-founded British mobile pioneer Omega Logic in 1999 and launched pre-pay mobile “top-ups”. She built top-up turnover to £88m (revenue of £7m) within three years of founding the business, and then sold to a privately held company, Eposs Limited. She then became Eposs’s CEO, sold the group to First Data Corporation, and built top-ups to £450m (revenue of £25m) in the next three years.
She now focuses on angel investing in start-up and early-stage businesses, holding a number of board positions and taking a lead in mentoring her entrepreneurs. Her investing success led to her being awarded the British Angel Investor of the Year in 2011. In June 2013 she was awarded the CBE for Services to Business. She is a Non-Executive Board Member of the Department for Business, Innovation & Skills (BIS), UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) and Sussex Place Ventures (London Business School’s VC).
Dale is recognised in the UK as one of the country’s leading entrepreneurs and angel investors and her opinions have featured in the Financial Times, The Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail. She regularly speaks on early-stage financing, investment, growth, entrepreneurialism and personal vision. She is known by the media as the “go-to” person on investment, high-growth business acceleration and success.
It’s no wonder that her experience and extensive expertise, combined with a straightforward and approachable manner mean that she is much in demand to speak and take part on panel and Q&A sessions. Audiences know that they’ll benefit from hearing her. DBA Speakers are delighted that Dale has chosen us to co-ordinate her very busy speaking diary.
She is invited to speak at regional and national levels, including at business events to promote British business and attended by the Prime Minister David Cameron and by members of the House of Commons and House of Lords. Her contacts book is enviable and she wears her success lightly, believing strongly in the power of sharing, networking and enabling others.
