He was a Minister in three departments: Environment, Transport & Regions (1999-2001): International Development: (February to May 2001); The Foreign Office (2003-2005). Chris was Chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee from1997-1999 and 2001-2003, and a Member of the Committee since 1992. He was a Member of the Standards and Privileges Committee from 2006-2010.
Chris Mullin has also written three novels, including the classic political thriller, A Very British Coup, the television version of which won BAFTA and Emmy awards and was shown in more than 30 countries. He also wrote Error of Judgement – the truth about the Birmingham Bombings, which led to the putting right of one of the biggest miscarriages of justice in British legal history.
His talks can be tailored to his audience but “often requested” themes include: A little light governing – an insider’s account of my 20 years in politics, My hunt for the Birmingham bombers and My brief career as a novelist.
Chris lives with his wife in Sunderland . He was educated at St Joseph ’s College, Ipswich and at the University of Hull .
